Their other headache has been trying to convince banks to lend them the money they need to take the company to the next stage. Despite their profits being up 20 per cent on last year, the answer was no. ‘I suspect it’s easier for a hi-tech company to get money than a crafts company,’ Marks says, pointing out that investment funds have been set up to help hi-tech businesses, but there’s no such thing for the craft industry.
